Did anyone else see the 1987 Coventry City team play against the old Spurs team at the Butts last Sunday 10th July? Not all the team could make it but I had my photo taken with Steve Ogrizovic so that made my day! Big grin We beat Spurs 3-1 and it was a great day. Although I wasn't born back in 1987 (I'm 13) I've watched the DVD of the Cup Final many times. Some of the players still looked very fit like Cyril Regis, David Bennett, Brian Borrows, David Phillips and Oggy too! Thumbs up Micky Gynn is bald and a bit chubby now but still played very well!!

Welcome to the forum Steve Wave Even those who were born in 1987 won't be aware of this. On the night before the game a group of jokers from the Holyhead Road area marched into town in the middle of the street wearing funeral outfits and carrying a fake coffin with the words "The unknown Spurs supporter" painted on the side! I had to work the following Saturday afternoon so missed the game on telly but was able to overhear the TV commentary from a distant room. It was good for CCFC that I wasn't able to watch the game as they always seem to lose when I do! Lol The greatest achievement that year from my point of view was that City won every round away from home and that includes Wembley which could be considered to be any London club's "home ground".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JRl_4X5G5E A friend was out filming on Far Gosford Street and Gosford Green. He was recording scenes of the area prior to Sky Blue Way being built. By happy coincidence the filming took place just after City had won the FA Cup at Wembley. ** WARNING ** contains graphic scenes of a dog answering the call of nature Lol

Hi all. Wave Fond memories of that era. Gosh, I wish that I was young & virile, instead of old & viral. Just a play on words. I knew the florist at Interflora nearby, in fact I will see her later today at a carol service. I have a movie facility on my mobile phone, but I might treat myself in the new year to one of these mini-mimic cams, now less than £50. I might start to feel young again, who knows. I loved the video. Thumbs up

Agreed that was brilliant to see again. Did not think I would see that whole area pre Sky Blue Way - it was a right mis-match at the time and prior where that restaurant was. We used to park my dad's car around Hood Street/Read Street on our way to Highfield Road and that's exactly how I recall the area. Thanks for the post. Incidentally I was in an euphoric state with dad coming out of Wembley at that time! Thumbs up

Hi Steve, I am old enough to remember that great day well. Myself and my husband were watching on TV when we got a phone call from my daughter's friend, to say could we go pick her up from her house as she was seriously drunk. They had been watching the match and had helped themselves to her dad's drinks cabinet, mixing lager and spirits. They were only 16 years old and didn't realise the effect it would have on them. We had to abandon the match and take a sick bucket and towel in the car to pick our daughter up. Needless to say my husband was not best pleased to miss the end of the game. Cheers Daughter recovered enough in the evening to go and celebrate at the Burnt Post but she stuck to soft drinks thank goodness. Wonder if any of the forum members have got any happy or otherwise memories of that wonderful day.

Hi Mayjan Wave My Pam remembers three of us sitting on our couch one minute, and then all three of us sitting on the floor, as the couch collapsed under our weight of landing.

Great memories of a great day in May 1987. I remember queueing up at the Wembley turnstiles with thousands of Coventry fans and one Spurs supporter! His claim for being at the Coventry end was 'well someone's got to show you lot the way here!' It was all very good natured! After a fantastic match when tears rolled down my cheeks as Brian Kilcline lifted the Cup, our journey home was equally memorable with fans on all of the motorway bridges as we neared Coventry. Walsgave Road was a mass of people of all ages, even dogs with Sky Blue scarves on. The police had Sky Blue ribbons on the aerials of their police motorcycles. It was rumoured that nobody in Coventry that famous Saturday night was arrested for drink driving! That may, however, be an urban myth! I just feel very fortunate to have been born in an era when City made history. Even if the Sky Blues won the Cup again nothing would ever match that historic day in May 1987. Big grin Cheers

Hey Mayjan, Where have you been? Yes, we can only imagine what it was like in Coventry on that eventful day-night so you had plenty to remember too then. We were all in front of the goggle box surrounded by everything that we did not have to get up from our seats for (food wise) and had a great night. Fully recorded so Tony goes back down memory lane now and again. Also, none of us got blotto either!!!!! Wave That must have been an enjoyable game for you Steve last week, hope to hear more from you on here. Thumbs up

By the way did I hear that they are showing the whole game on Saturday in town??? I put some good photos on here under sad day for CCFC. Thumbs up Mod's Note: See covmanuk's photos here

I think everyone got caught up in "Sky Blue Fever" that famous day in 1987. My husband set off with two of his mates to see the game and I took a photo of them outside our house with their sky blue gear on carrying a massive banner. As for me I went to my mother-in-laws to watch the game with my mum and heavily pregnant sister-in-law. Even if you didn't like football you just wanted to be part of the day! It was so good for Coventry.
