I bought this postcard some years ago but can't find anything out about the accident[s] that 4 men were killed, 2 in a week. Anyone know out there? Postcard image Postcard back Postcard text

All, again apologies if this has been seen before but there are many shots I'd not: Old Postcards Fascinating to see work about to start on the old National Provincial Bank: Has anyone ever seen any images from inside The Kings Head?

I've only ever seen pictures of its courtyard where the vehicles were parked. One of the hotels in the city centre was owned by the Great Western Railway but I've never been able to find proof which one it was? Anecdotal evidence suggests it was the Kings Head. Coventry Station was owned by the London & North Western Railway company who greatly resented any attempt by the GWR to muscle-in on their territory.

I'd certainly love to see what it was like inside - it was apparently quite a high class place, but I've never seen any pictures. I must check, but I'm sure I've read that Admiral Nelson stayed in there on a brief visit to Coventry once.

Thought I might have a bash at finding any details of the death's of the four men. According to the 'Western Daily Express' Bristol, 10th July 1923: Two men were killed in Coventry within a few hours of each other with the same motor water sprinkler. A man from Sheffield fell under the back wheels and another a local man, George Eales, who was riding a motor cycle, lost his balance when passing the same sprinkler and was crushed beneath it. So a tragic tale Sad I haven't managed yet to find any info on the other two men, I haven't got access to the Coventry papers for 1923 on the computer yet. Hope you catch this as your post was a while ago.

Oh, just re-checked the name of the Coventry man, the print was a bit hard to read but it was George BATES not Eales, don't want anyone wasting time on their Eales ancestry cos of my mis-print Roll eyes

I was wandering through Warwick today and found these postcards in that 'Multi' antique shop with small shops in one. I've seen this image before but not with the pub on the right hand side whatever its name is? This is the mill/smithy? by the Coat of Arms bridge. This scene is now ruined by street furniture and hideous galvanised railings that could at least have been painted dark green in my opinion.

Nice on Catshed - that last one of Coats of Arms bridge is a cracker - not seen that one before. That looks almost pre-Memorial park when the land was simply Styvechale Common. I'm sure I'll be corrected as has been discussed here before but I think I'm right in saying the Coat of Arms on the bridge was of the landowner for agreeing to let the train line run across his land.
