May be useful for the pubs thread as I know its been mentioned on there but not seen this one before recently shared on one of the Coventry Facebook pages - The Bear just before demolition in 1980ish. Today the lot where it was located is Barclays Bank. Edited by member, 27th Aug 2018 10:01 am Post copied from topic High Street on 27th Aug 2018 10:10 am

Was there a reason that was demolished?

Same old story by the sounds of it flap (from realalerambles) In 1977 Mitchells and Butler applied for planning permission to demolish the pub and erect offices suitable for building society, banking or insurance company purposes. i.e £££

Well The Albany is now completely cover in scaffolding. Anyone know what they are doing with the building? I'm presuming flats/apartments.

I can't find anything in Coventry Planning, Neil. It does say it is a listed building

OK so I asked the question to the Love Earlsdon FB page and had this response re: The Albany : The scaffolding is to make repairs to keep the building in a decent state. I don't know how often you walk past it, but the ceiling in the front room had fallen down. As far as I know, the community preservation order still stands, so it can't be converted into anything else Not sure who is funding that but I hate seeing it empty Sad Apparently it's owned by the Coventry Freemen's Charity.

So there is a Facebook page just created for 'The New Albany' opening within 5 weeks! Cheers (although it does mention smart dress so hoping it does not go too wine-bar-like and stays proper pub-like). Edited by member, 22nd Oct 2018 5:34 pm

Great to see that The Albany reopens Friday 23th November. I'm pretty sure it won't be too wine bar-like. It's a venture worthy of support and a venue supporting live music.
