I think this from a Liverpool fans' forum sums it up rather well: It's the extreme but logical outcome of a society where far too many people think in terms of 'I want something and I literally do not care how it affects anyone else'. There's always been malicious *****s, but I'm absolutely sure there's more people around now who are just completely unaware of the concept of taking other people into consideration. 'I want to be somewhere on the other side of town, I've had a few pints, I have a car, I will drive the car' - not even the slightest consideration of the massive danger to innocent life. Angry

No mention of drink-driving Oh my A man and woman have appeared in court charged with causing the death of two young brothers by dangerous driving, following a suspected hit-and-run crash in Coventry. Corey, six, and Casper Platt-May, two, were on a family trip to a park on Thursday when they were hit by a car. Robert Brown, 53, and Gwendoline Harrison, 41, spoke only to confirm their names and addresses at Coventry Magistrates' Court. They have been remanded in custody. Mr Brown, of Attwood Crescent, Wyken, is also charged with driving while disqualified and without a licence or insurance. Ms Harrison, of Triumph Close, Wyken, also faces an allegation of common assault. They are due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday 22 March.

I'd read/heard on tv or radio that it was a drink driving incident as well. Maybe premature reporting or suggestion.

Very sad news Philip and it is happening all too often these days, there and here too I am afraid. My heart goes out to the families and the memories they will hold always. (RIP little one)

Hi Philip, I`ve only just spotted this item to which you drew our attention more than a week ago, I have read the Telegraph report and to be honest, I am not sure whether I should be astonished or not. Over 30 offenders seems an awful lot, but I wonder for instance, what is the total number of food outlets this should be set against, how many of those are actually inspected in the period and even what are the characteristics which lead to the low results, which to me, sound as they are close to being closed down? And what about the 2s and 3s, are they pretty dicey? And how does Coventry compare with other areas? I take it food inspectors don`t give advance warnings like school inspectors. Twisted
