Now that we are in the 100th anniversary year of the start of the Great War, and coupled with the fact that I'm trying to trace the last weeks of my great uncle who, like many others never came back has posed the question: Was there a Coventry pals battalion?

Here is a list of "Pals Battalions" and sadly Coventry is not on it. Wiki Pals Battalions

I would say "fortunately" instead of sadly. With Pals Battalions when things went wrong, and there many casualties, whole districts of towns could find they have lost all their young men in one fell swoop.

I think you are spot-on DBC, "fortunately" for local families, "sadly" from an investigative point of view.
