Hi, I am looking for some information about a cake shop on Acorn Street in Stoke Aldermoor. It was for a long time called Elaine's Bread and Cake shop and has only recently changed its name. It changed its name to Elaines around 1972-74. I wonder if anyone knows what it was called before this change? I am specifically looking for someone who used to do deliveries to that shop from some kind of wholesalers, her name was Christine and she drove a blue transit van, she was very nice to the local kids and someone would like to find her and thank her. She was in her 30's she was quite tall, she lived with her mum (who had a mynah bird) in the Nuneaton area. I'd love it if someone could help me with any of the above information.

I sold insurance in Nuneaton for 12 years and there was a woman with a bird that talked when I was there, can't remember where they lived though.

What schools might you have attended if you lived in or around that area in the 70's? Someone suggested Aldermoor Farm school and Ernesford Grange School, so if you attended these schools or have friends who attended you might know the area and the lady I'm looking for? I know this it might help open up other avenues of inquiry. Thanks Edited by member, 22nd Mar 2014 5:01 pm

Thanks, I PM-ed you deanocity3 but I haven't heard back, I would really love to know anything more you might remember about the bird, or the women who lived there, anyone else who lived there, or anything else you might remember about where this place was? I'm still looking for anyone to help with the search for Christine, who lived with her mother in Nuneaton with the mynah bird. I understand such birds require a special diet, so Christine's mother would have to buy food at a specialist pet shop. They need to be fed several times throughout the day so perhaps someone out there would come in and feed the bird while the ladies were out of on holiday? These birds can also live for a very long time (10-20 years!) I really hope someone can help given this new information. Perhaps someone might know where she might have gone to purchase specialist mynah bird food? a local pet shop in the 70's Please, please get int touch if you think you have any information, even if it seems small. Anything might help Thanks.

Hi AcornStreet, sadly I don't have any information but I think it would help if we clarified a couple of things. Did 'Christine' deliver here when the shop was called 'Elaines' (i.e. after 72/74) or before it changed its name (hence the reason you are asking what the shop was called before this time)? Or better still, what actual year are you referring to? If she was in her 30's in the mid 70's, I guess that would make her in her mid 70's now? So we are actually talking about something that happened 40 (ish) years ago. Or have I totally misunderstood the question? I know it may not be your fault that this information is a bit vague, but the more you can tell us, the better chance we've got Thumbs up

Hi TonyS Thanks for your comments. Sadly the information I have given is about all I have at this time as and when more comes in I will update this post. You have understood the question perfectly, I would like to know the name of the shop as it was before Elaine's, it appears it may have changed its name two or more times. The person who remembers her says Christine delivered to the shop before the name change to Elaine's though she may have continued to deliver before or after the change. I'm not sure at this time exactly what year of this person's memories (probably the early 70's) though it is possible Christine and her mother may have been around for some years either side. Thanks
