Christmas Dreams Video clips and images collected from the last few years around the area set to Lieutenant Pigeon's very festive song. The decorations at the start are at Briant Curtaining on the corner of Albany Road / Spencer Avenue and were filmed in the last couple of weeks. For anyone on the forum who lives in Coventry, the Earlsdon Street late night shopping is Thursday 15th December. Santa Claus on his sleigh outside Kendall's Deli 5.45 - 6.00pm, lots of on street musicians / carol singers etc, mince pies, mulled wines etc, more singing at Earlsdon Methodist Church. Many shops open until 8pm - just hope it doesn't pour down with rain. All welcome! Thumbs up

I did Keith but you had me stumped. Those Broadspeed Jags looked awesome. I have a load of photos of the Coventry Motoring centenary celebrations in 1985 where the city centre was closed off and a circuit made around town. I'm sure there was a Broadspeed at that - will try to dig out.

Hi NY - the Broadspeed Jags looked the part, but were unbelievably fragile, unfortunately! You only had to look at them, and they broke. It proved the folly of going racing with a car of not far from 2 tons; to get performance they had to be seriously 'souped up', and to get roadholding, the wheels/tyres had to be enlarged to the point where they overstressed everything. Broadspeed had a super reputation from racing Minis, but Jags - and even Dolomite Sprints - were a totally different ball game! A lot of people at Browns Lane believed that they could have done far better, but BL politics ruled, and they weren't allowed to get involved unless Ralph Broad agreed. But an interesting bit of history, probably (best!) forgotten now, involving Browns Lane and Canley. Incidentally, I thought the Broadspeed Jags were broken up - but you may know different!! Wink

Out of the mouths of babes and infants!! The following is from a Church newsletter: THE NATIVITY as scripted and performed by a class of 10-year olds: Innkeeper: I've told you twice, I'm very sorry, there's no room in the inn, we're full up. Joseph: But look here, my wife Mary is having a baby, she's due to have it any minute! Innkeeper: Well that's not my fault is it! Joseph: Well it's not my fault either! Merry Christmas everyone! Cheers Cheers Cheers

Every year Holy Trinity held a service of "Carols and Nine Lessons", and each year The Coventry Standard sent a photographer to the choir practice for the service Here are a couple of such photos from the early 1960s In both photos, the choirmaster is Leonard Tanner PS I see the service is still held, although its title has been altered to "Nine Lessons and Carols" Happy Christmas Thumbs up
