Hi everyone Can anyone help. I am looking for a more detailed map of Gilbert Street, in particular number 23 that stood off the main street up an alleyway or entry in the 1860s. On my 1887 map there is no close detail to show where my ancestors lived, working as weavers. In my research I have spotted other dwellings in the area were using bar looms and I have a question for everyone to answer. Was the loom used to weave wool or silk? Tony

The 1881 Census shows Gilbert Street mainly populated by silk weavers Thumbs up No.23 was occupied by Hannah Lord, 81, widow, silk weaver, b Coventry, and a lodger, Elizabeth Osbourne, 77, widow, parish relief, b Coventry

From the 1871 Coventry Standard in the newspaper archive. Several houses in Gilbert Street were being sold

I believe that's the toilet block? Oh my Unusually it has one toilet for each household. This location seems more likely to me: To view the original please visit https://www.old-maps.co.uk/ Edited by member, 30th Aug 2016 5:01 pm
