I do like these photo mysteries, although Dutchman is rather hard to beat when it comes to knowledge of old Coventry!!! Could this one be the tail fin from an incendiary bomb?

The hole appears to have been made by a high velocity projectile of some sort? A canon shell perhaps? Possibly part of a shot-down aircraft?

Dutchman you are good at this, I am impressed!! Although you have the first part right the second part is not! hehe. I think the metal would be too thick and heavy for an aircraft I don't know how many other people from Coventry have such an unusual and rare item such as this?!

From the colour, I would guess that it was either a piece of angle iron (though I can't imagine why anyone would put that into a wooden mount) or going on the shearing at the top edge and around the hole, it might just be a piece of lead flashing?

It looks like aluminium. How about HMS Coventry that was sunk in the Falklands?

OK I will put you all out of your misery once and for all! It is in fact a piece of angle iron from the roof truss of Morris Engines Courthouse Green! A German Dornier in WW2 made the hole you see in it, when they used to spray the factories with machine gun fire during the raids. It looks like aluminium because it has been platted to make it last longer. It was my father (unwittingly) who was contracted to demolish the Morris Engine factories 1982/83. In his eyes they should never have demolished the factory! They should have revamped and competed in the car market and maybe kept some manufacturing in the West Midlands!!
