You're right, it is pretty much definite that the Godiva ride was a myth - written about many, many years afterwards by a mischievous monk! It's also true that there's no actual record that places "Godgifu" in Coventry at any time, which sounds so strange given that she's so synonymous with our city. It's quite probable that she would've been here at some time though, and she was recorded in the Domesday book as being the landowner of Coventry. It's slightly different with Leofric (pronounced Leovric, like the word "of") though, as it was recorded that he was buried in a transept of the original Saxon Benedictine church here. Many old historians used to state that Godiva was buried in the other transept, but she was more reliably recorded as being buried in Evesham.

Yes. As she was married to Leofric she would be a mythis (phonetically and with a lithp)

Groaaan @ Robin. Lol There's another myth/theory that they were both buried under the porch of St Mary's and that a couple were found there before meaningful tests were developed. Coventry's owners seem to have been absent far more often than they were in residence.
