Hi. Do any old employees have any recollection of the date of closure of this great firm. I was there in the late fifties and it seemed half of Bedworth were working there! The railway station at Holbrooks was adjacent to the factory and it was like a troop train disgorging when they all piled off! In the machine shop there was an office up steps in the middle of the shop floor so the gaffers could keep their eyes on proceedings. One nightshift foreman was a big chap, Tom Westwood, with a preponderance to nod off mid shift. In the valve guide dept was a cheeky lad who owned a big Triumph motorbike and one night in the breaktime rode his bike through the machine shop! With all the machines switched off you can imagine the uproar and nobody grassed the culprit up. It was rumoured at the time that Westwood had fell off his chair but nothing was proven. Memories like this are unforgettable and I just wonder if there are any other survivors of the good old Brico. Cheers. Cheers

Brico hasn't had a thread of its own, but if you type "Brico" into the search box, there are a couple of references which may interest you Thumbs up

I worked at Brico during the early fifties on the Gridley Automatic. Didn't know what I was making! I also played football for the Brico football team, together with Frank Welland, the McKenna brothers, Johnnie Gray, Stu ? and others that my ageing brain forgets. I left Brico factory (but not the football team) at the time of the Iran ? crisis. Harry Rayner was the labour manager and also of the football teams. Happy days!!!!!! Cheers Cheers

Hi Kaga. It was certainly Harry when I left, 54/55. Peacehaven, is it as lovely as it sounds? Cheers

erewegoagain, thanks, just one of the swimming gang we knew boasted he could give mates a job. Peacehaven, yes, out of our front window we can see The Downs, the back window the Channel, but the houses are gradually eating up The Downs, and the sea is eating up the cliffs and it's full of old fogeys like me.
