A45, Stretton-on-Dunsmore

I was brought up in Stretton, and had a part time job as a car washer at Bob's caff. Later I worked at the Dun Cow as a waiter, whilst at college. Does anybody there remember Oliver at the Dun Cow service station? I and my friends were car crazy when we were in our teens and collectively owned a succession of cars which were mobile near death experiences. Oliver used to look them over for free, charge their batteries, and more than once, turned out with cans of petrol, or equipment to remedy our many breakdowns.

Just to let you all know, Bob's Cafe no longer exists. Went past it the other day and the whole lot has been demolished, that's another part of my teen period gone.

Took this pic last night of Bobs Cafe. They are rebuilding the facade, looks like they are using the original stonework for the entrance.

It's not adding much to what you already have, but here's Bob's Cafe as of now. There's also the Dun Cow being built Adding to the current eyesore of the Dun Cow, is the fact the house next to it seems to be going the same way!

I was born and partly dragged up in Frankton, and Bob's was a regular stopping-off point for us on our motorcycles on the way back from Brandon Speedway on Saturday evenings. Sad to see it in such a state. We also used to attend the disco at the Dun Cow fairly often; also such a shame to see. The place really has had a chequered career!

Who owned Bobs café in 1953 to 1955, his father was in partnership with Henry Bowen of Passenger Vehicle Disposals and Fleet Car Sales, buying and selling buses

Cyril's Cafe opposite where the Mazda garage is today was owned by the French's usually known as Frenchie's cafe, the BRS depot was where the Mazda dealer is up until 1961.
