Also there is no record of a 'Wright' in Grosvenor Road on the 1939 register.
Searches are possible by name or address but neither result in a hit.
There is a H WRIGHTIN on the 1953 directory though, see image for 1953.
Incidentally the initial fits, H (as in Mrs H).
I've looked in the 1935 dir and no joy there either.

I can't remember the year but I'll look it up later if you wish. |

The May Day one is primary school def but the other two, not quite sure where they were taken. They are thought to be to do with the Coronation, end of some sort of collective party maybe. Not enough in the background to go on to place them. The area looks to be down from road level as in one of the pics you can see handrails coming down through the trees also like a corner shop frontage. The person who gave me the pics is also from Newcombe Rd and would have been 10 in 1952. ![]() |

I remember Fare Value, one of the first self service grocers (supermarket to today's generation!). Sainsburys opened up in the city centre fairly soon after. Faines (?) was a stationer nearly opposite Blue Chain.
