It was for Saturday and Sunday and my net pay was £6 3s 11d. This was for a weekend, finishing the brickwork arch on a Lancashire (I think) boiler at Fisher and Ludlow. I remember the wartime camouflage paint still visible on the buildings.
The next five weekdays, at Coventry Power Station, brought me in £11 16 0d. Now that was a dirty job! Water for tea was boiled in a galvanised bucket and made very strong. After that week, I returned to College. I could not stand the smell of tea for weeks! A. J. Beardsmore. |

Must have been around '92, although I could be a year or two out there. |
