Public family trees on Ancestry are notorious for being misleading, as they prove to be inaccurate, due to a failure to substantiate what's included I found one tree which included my grandfather, it showed him emigrating to USA and marrying in that country - good job my grandma never found out! Roll eyes To make matters worse, the incorrect tree was clearly copied by others and adopted as "their family"!

I agree MR. It is useful to look at other peoples trees for clues but I would advise anyone to check the information themselves for errors. Also with the hints, Ancestry often come up with a hint that seems to fit until you look at them in detail.

I'd like to second that MR. When I researched my own family tree although several trees had both my parents on it, I didn't exist Sad On the same trees both my brothers' dates and places of birth were wrong and so was the name of my father's first wife. They have now been corrected but you never now who else has used them in their tree Mods note: This post and the previous two have been copied into our "Family History Research" thread

Hi Luke, thank you for the information. As you can see my posts were a few years apart and with the information you have supplied, there was a lot of confusion within my search. I am now confident that I have the right Thomas, I know his parents were called Alice and Benjamin and I can now carry on with my search and hopefully get the right information. I would be grateful if you could message the people who have done the family tree. Regards

Hi Jackstar et al., Yes I agree Midland Red, you have to be awful careful when looking at family trees made on ancestry - so it's always good to thoroughly review their research. But after a bit of peer review, looking into the research carried out by the individual who made the tree - in my opinion I think they know their onions Wink Smile ___________________________ In the 1871 Census: Thomas Ward (born about 1841 in Moxley, Staffordshire) was living in Attercliffe, Yorkshire (working as a "Nut and Bolt maker"). Also in the household is his wife: Jane Ward (born about 1843 in Moxley, Staffordshire) and his 5 children: Samuel Ward. Thomas Ward. Eliza Ward. Job Ward (born about 1868 in Buckinghamshire). and John Ward. ========================== In the 1881 Census: Thomas Ward (born about 1841 in Wolverhampton*) was living in Attercliffe, Yorkshire (working as a "Nut and Bolt maker"). Also in the household is his wife: Jane Ward (born about 1844 in Wolverhampton*) [* ~ Place of birth box had 'crossing outs' inside - with what looks like Stratford (?) written underneath]. and 9 children: Thomas Jnr. Ward. Eliza Ward. Job Ward (Born about 1868 in Buckinghamshire). John Ward. Miriam Ward. Amy Ward. Lavina Ward. and Bernannda Ward. ========================== In the 1891 Census: Thomas Ward (born about 1841 in Attercliffe, Yorkshire) was living in Brightside Biertown, Yorkshire (Working as a "Blacksmith"). Also in the household is his wife: Jane Ward (born 1845 in Attercliffe, Yorkshire). and 5 Children: Miriam Ward. Kate Ward. 'Levinia' Ward. Edith Ward. and Ben Ward (born 1883 in Attercliffe, Yorkshire) ========================== In the 1911 Census: Job Ward (born about 1868 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire) is living in Attercliffe, Yorskshire (working as a Blacksmith (repairing tools)). With his Wife: Elizabeth Ward (born 1862 in Sheffield). and their son Thomas Ward (born 1907 in Sheffield). ___________________________ In 1905: A Benjamin Ward married a Alice Jackson in Sheffield, Yorkshire. ========================== Although some of the birth places jump around slightly, the birth dates and names seem consistent. Jackstar - I'll private message you on this forum to ask for your e-mail address if that's ok - which I can send to the owner of the tree and hopefully you should get a reply. Thumbs up Luke. Hi Luke, I was just wondering if you have had a chance to get in touch with those people on ancestry? Regards.

Hi Jackstar, Yes I sent a message explaining things with your e-mail address on Thursday, hopefully the person who owns the ancestry account should check their messages soon. If you don't get a reply - contact me and I can jot down the names and dates off the tree and send them to you (of course, as mentioned previously, it's best to check the information to make sure it's all correct), but it would be better for you to talk to them as they put the tree together (and have uploaded a few photographs - suggesting they have close ties with that part of the family - especially Alice Bradshaw (previously Alice Ward)). Thumbs up Luke.

Hi Luke, thanks. Yeah hopefully they will get in touch soon. I will leave it for a few more days. Yeah I will check all my info (in fact I'm going to go and see a relative of grandad Thomas's in a few weeks so hopefully I will have more information and can verify all the information you have provided). It will be nice to be in contact with some more relatives and see some photos. I've only got a couple of my grandad Thomas. Thanks again and I will be in touch soon. Regards.

Its probably of no use at all but our greengrocer was a Mr Ward and his shop was in a road off Harnall Lane opposite Cambridge and Wright Streets. We lived there between 1948 and 1957 and he was still there when we left. Sorry I can't remember the name of the street and I do not have a map.

Bradford Street? By the way, did you know of the 'Sulley' family in Blythe Road?

Thanks for the map Heathite. It may have been on the corner of Bedford Street and Sackville Street as the shop was on a corner. Sorry, I don't remember the Sulley family. I went to Freddies between 1954-1960 Infants & Juniors.

Hi Luke, good news, a guy named Philip who is doing the Ward family tree on ancestry as been in touch via email and it seems we are related, through Alice and Benjamin. I'm really grateful for all the info you have supplied. Best regards.

Arthur Ward at 91 Sackville Street, provision dealer. Are you able to see the image clearly enough? Unfortunately to get both the Street name and Mr Ward in, the image is rather long. No worries about the Sulleys.
