She always wanted to visit the place again but never got the chance, so if anyone on here can help me find any information on the building I would be very grateful as I feel this is all I can do for her now. I do have some photos but would love to hear any other stories, if anyone knows someone who went there too. thank you xx |

mick coventry All posts by this member | 4 of 4 Mon 9th Mar 2015 5:18pm Member: Joined Sep 2012 Total posts:74 I was involved in the sale of Town Thorns by the Council to BEN - the Motor Industries Benevolent Fund and recall that we had to contact the Herbert family solicitors over certain issues in his conveyance to the Council. Specifically there was a right for him to occupy a room in the House and another obligation - to take on a cook who worked there. Sir Alfred had acquired it from John Gray - the builder who had bought Coombe Abbey from the Cravens - and I suspected he might have rented it from him before that and perhaps continued to use the reserved room on visits to Coventry during the War. |
