Cox Street

As there does not appear to be a dedicated Cox Street thread - this one deserved a special spot as new to me - 1930ish? Edited by member, 19th Jan 2018 12:30 am

It is a very good picture but I'm fairly sure that it's post war.

I understand your confusion Helen but Poole's warehouse has yet to be constructed on the corner of Grove Street which places it before 1939. Also many of the buildings in the picture were badly bombed and had been cleared by 1946.

I believe the truck in the foreground was registered in early 1930 at the latest and I don't think would have been more than 10 years old when pictured. It is a Nelson's Cement vehicle from the Stratford area, the company ceasing to trade in the 1940's. Therefore this also supports the date of the picture probably being in the mid 1930's.
