For ages when there was petrol rationing it stayed in the shared entry of our end-of-terrace house. One day it was taken out to transport us all to visit my grandmother's sisters in Grantham. We got as far as the Leicester ring-road when the 'big-end' gave up and we ground to a halt. I cannot remember how we all got home, but it was probably by bus from Leicester. I made the same journey (successfully) by bike when I was fifteen. This was a matter of conjecture from my peers as I was not in the least athletic. However, I did accomplish the 57 miles and after staying with the great-aunts, made the return journey and took a photo of water issuing from a pipe from a natural spring near Kroxton Kerriel to prove it. |

As he worked at Rootes, Ryton, we heard as boys quite a lot about the difference from other vehicles. It had to be abandoned in 1949 when on a family trip to Grantham the 'big end' went and it had to be towed back to Coventry. What happened next I don't recall. The car was big and black and looked like the photo of Deanocity3 taken at Weston-Super-Mare.
