I was at that game against Southampton in 1966 when he scored scored one of the best goals I have ever seen. He controlled the ball in front of the centre half, lobbed it over him, ran around him and volleyed it into the goal - absolutely brilliant!!!. He was a very skilful player and when he jumped up to contest a headed ball he always lead with his fist, defenders were very physical back then, some downright dirty. I am grateful to have seen him play. The 60s with Jimmy Hill managing was a magical time for the Sky Blues. Rest in peace, George!!! |

One game I will always remember is a midweek game against Preston on a pitch covered in snow and ice. The Sky Blues won 2-0 and George might just have had ice skates on, his balance was something special. Thanks for the memories, George. |
