Willenhall House
Built in around 1830, this beautiful Victorian residence stood on the corner of St James Lane and London Road. The gate in the wall was roughly where the Marina fish and chip shop is now. It was very imposing and had extensive grounds and an orchard. Originally built by James Wyatt, who managed the Coombe Estate at the time, it was later let out to retired military personnel such as Colonel Battine. Unfortunately, like many Victorian buildings, it fell into ruin during the 1940s and was used for fire practice during World War Two before being demolished to make way for the shops and houses.
