Your aunt Elsie Ruth Castle was still single on the 1939 register and living with Anne, who I am pretty sure is her mum Anne in Swindon, and she is a railway laundress. She did not marry William Brown until 1944 in Ilkeston. There is a William Brown in Blackpool in 1939 running a hotel. He may be the one discharged from the Army in 1919. As I said in my message my theory would be that Elsie and Alfred were wartime sweethearts but sadly he died in 1917, and she waited a long time before remarrying. I certainly think sending for Alfred's death certificate would help your quest. |
